The Reformed Church of Nyírbátor is one of the most visited monuments of Hungary. The builder of the Church was István Bathory, Transylvanian Voivod and arbiter of the country. He played an important role in building the Castle and the Transfigurational Cathedral, too. The building may have begun in 1484 and finished in 1511. The building consists of one large hall to which a small, square-based staircase-tower is connected on its southwest part. The inseparable part of the Church is the wooden bell-tower standing next to it, which was made in 1640 following the Transylvanian pattern. The almost 30 meters high tower made of oak wood is the oldest and highest wooden bell tower. During its renovation new touristic design sets were added. In the tower next to the renewed stairs a lift was implemented so in this way the visitors can see the renovated roofing that is unique in Europe. In addition, a light and film show can be seen from the grid above the arch.
