The former Transfigurational Monastery was built in the 18th century. Inside of this marvellous building there is the museum that has been offering numerous antiquities to see since 1957. It has a wide range of collections in fields of archaeology, history, ethnography, and history of weapons, fine arts and crafts. Its temporary exhibition called "The centuries of Nyírbátor" tells the story of the town from medieval times until the turning point of the 19th and 20eth centuries. Here, visitors can take a look at ornamental and everyday things of the former landlords of the town and their families; and the everyday tools of the simple farmers' and peasants' life. Some of its most significant art relics are the choir bench from 1511 (the replica of the one in the National Gallery), the insignia stone with dragon of the Bathory family from renaissance times dated in 1484, and the ornamental sword of Gabor Bethlen Transylvanian Monarch made in 1622. In the museum there are 10-12 exhibitions annually in this way providing opportunities for introducing contemporary visual arts. Near the monumental buildings the visitors can see the statues of Istvan Bathory, Sebestyén Lantos Tinódi, Zoltán Kodály, Ferenc Liszt, and Gabor Bethlen.
